With the warlord's help, he successfully becomes the new emperor and he takes both Yin and Guo as his consorts. Even though the struggle for power has ended, conflicts within the palace has just began.

2. Princess of Lanling King

Chinese Title: 兰陵王妃

Cast: Zhang Hanyun, Peng Guanying, Andy Chen Yi, Lin Weichen, Shen Jiahong
Tentative Airing Date: TBD

Synopsis: Duanmu Ling (Zhang Hanyun) is tasked with safeguarding the two valuable treasures that gives people the power to become the ruler of a nation. As fate has it, she gets involved in a relationship with Lan Ling Wang and emperor Yuwen Yong.

Reason to Watch: Wasn't a big fan of Lan Ling Wang, so really wanted to watch another version!

3. Be With You

Chinese Title: 不得不爱
Episodes: 40
Cast: Xu Lu, Wilber Pan, Rachel Mao, Denny Huang
Tentative Airing Date: 2016

Synopsis: Lin Wei Ling (Xu Lu), had a crushing childhood: she lost her mother very young and lives with her father in a big, empty house, with servants. She usually dresses like a boy just to play with the other boys in her neighborhood. But after they learn of her gender – they no longer allow her into their group. Even though she’s treated like a pearl in her father’s hand, he works days and nights. Then one day, after waiting endlessly for him to show up at the parents’ meeting, she fumes and heads to his company. Just seconds before entering the revolving door, a thud pulls her attention back. Lying bloody on the hood of her family’s car is a man all too familiar. Blood pools and encircles around him, his eyes never leaving her face, as if staring straight into her innocent soul.

The tragedy takes away her father and her ability to talk. She’s left to be taken care by her father’s “friend”. He lives with his wife, a woman with a beautiful smile, and their young son, Hu Qian Yu (Wilber Pan). (credits to Soompi)

Reason to Watch: I love Xu Lu after watching her in The Legend of Zhen Huan and The Wife's Lies so I am definitely going to watch this. I also want to watch this for the bromance!

4. Love Without a Trace

Chinese Title: 乱世枭雄之爱无恨
Episodes:
Cast: Tong Liya, Yang Shuo, Peng Guan Ying, Xiao Han
Tentative Airing Date: TBD

Synopsis: It’s the end of the Tang dynasty, and the country is in chaos. It’s the time of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, and the warlords fight for the throne. Tang Xiaocheng, the young master of a wealthy family, wanted to create a dream-like paradise for the girl of his dreams, Shen Lianxing. He gave up business for warfare, becoming enveloped in political machinations, but who could have foretold that in winning “all under heaven,” he lost the heart of his lover? Lianxing is unable to understand his idea of “using battles to end battles”; meanwhile, his actions sowed enmity made an enemy of his good friend Zhang Junxiang. (credits to spcnet)

Reason to Watch: Wasn't a big fan of Lan Ling Wang, so really wanted to watch another version!

5. The Last Healer in The Forbidden City

Chinese Title: 末代御医
Episodes: 22
Cast: Roger Kwok, Tavia Yeung, Pierre Ngo, Rebecca Zhu, Law Lan
Tentative Airing Date: March 28, 2016

Synopsis: The story revolves around Roger's character as the Qing Dynasty's last imperial physician under the rule of Empress Dowager Cixi.

Reason to Watch: Tavia's last TVB drama in stock so far and stellar cast consisting of TVB king and queen plus skilled supporting actors and veterans. Hopefully the storyline doesn't disappoint.

6. Princess Wei Yang

Chinese Title: 锦绣未央
Episodes: 50
Cast: Tiffany Tang, Luo Jin, Vanness Wu, Rachel Mao
Tentative Airing Date: TBD

Synopsis: The Northern Wei Dynasty was obliterated one night leaving behind the kindhearted Princess Feng Xin Er as an orphan. Although she escapes death, she accidentally enters her enemy's territory and she assumes the identity of Li Wei Yang, the daughter of a tutor. She suffers many hardships but eventually utilises her wisdom and sense of justice to become a powerful woman as well as gaining a beautiful romance. (credit to Soompi)

Reason to Watch: I like the actors more than the lead actress - her Mary Sue character doesn't make the plot sounds appealing and especially since it's butchered to the point of not correctly representing the character from the novel it is adapted from. But I will give it a try since I do like Luo Jin and Vanness!

    1. I know right? Like Singing All Along, it finished filming over two years ago but unfortunately there is still no airing news regarding this drama. I really want to watch it since I didn't really like Lan Ling Wang :/

  2. Hi, just want to inform you, Be With You will be aired in IQiyi starting January 2, 2017. I love Xu Lu too, & she's currently already have 7 projects to be aired in 2017. Be With You isn't my most awaited upcoming dramas of her (that'll be Tribes & Empires, The Weasel Grave, Prince Coffee Lab ), but it'll do for opening the year:

    1. Thank you for the info! I was looking forward to this drama and was upset when I found out the airing date was pushed back. I've watched Tribes & Empires' trailer and I was very impressed by the execution, the backdrops, costumes, and everything. That is definitely another one I can't wait to watch so hopefully it will secure an airing date soon.

  3. Sorry, lot of typos in my previous post so had to delete it. So, have you watch it yet, Be With You? I like it enough, 8.5/10 for me. Now waiting for the 2nd half in Jan 25. The plot is nothing special, the usual soap-revenge makjang melo. But the romance is very good, lots of hot and heart-tugging scenes with Xu Lu and the guys, they show us early how the 4 guys each interacts with the female lead. The “antiheroine” female lead is also a refreshing touch, I like the suspense of her “double agent” life. Her antiheroine char. also brings a fresh spin in “harem” genre (she’s a bit manipulative towards the guys). Both OP and ED songs are also to die for.

    1. Hi, sorry for the late reply - I've actually watched the first 9 episodes to see how it goes and it's actually not bad at all. I have plenty of work now so I couldn't continue to watch it before it was taken down on YouTube.

I've actually found a super long trailer (~15-20 minutes) that basically gave away the whole plot. If you want spoilers, I can share it in my next post about my initial thoughts on the series (if the video hasn't been taken down yet).

I like she is the "antiheroine" but at the same time I am annoyed at the fact that she is misled. It's ~40-episodes so I want to wait until the ending is out before I decide whether I would continue with this.

    2. It's OK I was also busy in recent weeks, therefore can only reply now. I watched the 1st half of 1-22 via dianyingbar streaming site, and ep 23-25 in dailymotion, but so far no luck with the rest of eps. I know it's VIP-only, but didn't think IQiyi would really be so tight in controlling it. It's getting better as the drama went on, by eps 20s the heroine was already in full revenge mode, so it's more thrilling.

    3. It's hard to find all the episodes so I will probably wait until this series is officially released and then continue watching it. I have a lot of work lately so the only drama I have been following without much fast-forwarding is Glory of Tang Dynasty (which is surprisingly good, as of now).
